The department offers unique training programs in the field of modern applied physics, physics and computer technologies. We go beyond traditional professional education by including advanced study in mathematics, chemistry and biology in our applied physics courses.
The scientific work of the department is aimed at studying the fundamental relationships between chemical composition, atomic structure, microstructure, and macro-properties. Teachers and employees of the department work on the creation of semiconductor heterostructures, nanostructured semiconductor materials, nanoparticles in solid-state matrix and liquids, quantum dots, photonic crystals, porous semiconductors and dielectrics, aerogels, nanotubes, nanoceramics, high-temperature superconductors, organic semiconductors; investigate their physical properties. Employees of the department are active researchers with experience of scientific work in foreign universities.

The department provides specialized courses on research methods in biophysics, engineering and computer graphics, electrical signals in biology, theory of feedback systems, and others.
